Krugersdorp protest: Residents demand justice after alleged wrongful arrests
Munsieville residents are protesting outside a Krugersdorp court, claiming police arrested the wrong suspects following a recent rape and murder.
Dozens of Munsieville residents gathered outside the Krugersdorp Magistrate’s Court this morning, claiming police arrested the wrong suspects in connection with a recent rape and murder.
Krugersdorp News reports that Deka Specialized Services general manager Marcel Jonker said the protest started at about 08:00. By mid-morning, protesters carrying placards had filled the area outside the court, with police monitoring the largely peaceful demonstration.
Protester Langa Mzonyane said the community is angry about the killing of a woman on Tuesday.
“We believe the police arrested the wrong people,” said Mzonyane.
He claimed that five people were arrested, one was released, and the community does not understand why the others remain in custody.
Krugersdorp News attempted to obtain comment from police officers at the scene, but none was provided at the time of publication. Station commander Brigadier Happy Xaba was also contacted but could not comment or confirm the allegations.
