KwaMbonambi cop killer accused in court

Phumokwakhe Ndandwe (21) stands accused of fatally shooting Detective Sergeant Sakhile ‘Wiseman’ Nsibande (38) in the Cingci Reserve, KwaMbonambi, during a police raid.

A suspect who allegedly murdered a KwaMbonambi police officer last week, appeared in the Richards Bay Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

Phumokwakhe Ndandwe (21) stands accused of fatally shooting Detective Sergeant Sakhile ‘Wiseman’ Nsibande (38) in the Cingci Reserve, KwaMbonambi, during a police raid.

Searching for a house robbery suspect, police identified a house in which Ndandwe stayed.

The house was surrounded, and when the suspect noticed that he was cornered, he allegedly fired a shot through the window and escaped.

It was then discovered that Sergeant Nsibande was shot and he was rushed to hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

In a joint operation by Empangeni Public Order Police Crime Intelligence, KwaMbonambi detectives and the

Richards Bay Serious Organised Crime Unit the following day, Ndwandwe was arrested in KwaMsane.
He was found in possession an of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

He was remanded in custody and his case was postponed to next week Tuesday.

Nsibande is expected to be laid to rest at his home in KwaSokhulu, near KwaMbonambi, on Saturday.
