A 27-year-old man has been arrested after accosting a police officer and stealing his firearm near Mtubatuba, KwaZulu-Natal.
The police officer was accosted at gunpoint in his vehicle by Phakamani Arnold Zulu on Saturday at about 9.30pm, robbing him of his firearm before fleeing, Zululand Observer reported.
The police officer reportedly sustained injuries to his hands and left arm.
After receiving a tip-off from community members, police found Zulu at KwaBhoboza, where he was arrested and the firearm recovered by KwaMsane police. On further investigation, it was revealed that at the time of his arrest, Zulu had been out on parole for another offence, the nature of which has not yet been determined, said police.
Zulu was remanded in custody, and the case has been postponed to March 23 for a formal bail application.
This after a 25-year old suspect was arrested after allegedly stealing a police vehicle in George, in the Western Cape yesterday. In the video, the wreckage of the police van can be seen off the road, with paramedics and police on the scene.
