KZN man arrested after trying to run over wife with car, shooting her

It is alleged that the husband attempted to drive over the 60-year-old woman before shooting her.

A 63-year-old man is expected to appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court today, facing attempted murder charges.

The man was arrested in Pietermaritzburg on Monday, a few hours after he allegedly shot his wife in Westville, KZN.

The woman was rushed to hospital in a serious condition.

Kyle van Reenen of Emer-G-Med paramedics said they, together with ALS Paramedic Services and Mobi Claw, responded to the scene of a shooting incident outside a primary school in Westville.

“On arrival on scene, an adult female was found with serious injuries. Advanced Life Support intervention was needed to stabilise her before she was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital,” he said.

According to Van Reenen, reports from the scene indicate that a man, believed to be her husband, first tried to run her over with a car before crashing into a precast concrete fence.

“He then came out from his vehicle, drew a pistol, and fired several shots at her, striking her, before fleeing the scene.”
