KZN pensioner’s death under investigation after suspected break-in
Police are probing the circumstances surrounding an elderly man's death after his son found him dead in his home.
An inquest is being conducted following the discovery of 80-year-old Gangatharan Dhorarajah Moodley’s body at his Delhi Road, KZN, home that he shared with his younger son.
The Witness reports that Mountain Rise SAPS spokesperson Pancheal Singh says an investigation is being conducted.
According to emergency services who attended the scene, the man appeared to have been strangled during a break-in.
When The Witness arrived at the scene on Monday afternoon, family members, SAPS, security companies and emergency responders were at the home.
Neighbours at the scene, who did not want to be named, said they last saw Moodley around 14:00 on the day, and a burglary had occurred at the property the previous day.
Moodley’s son, Dean, said his father was a wonderful person who was known in the community.
His younger brother discovered their father’s body in the toilet when he arrived home from work.
“My dad stayed at home. He was a wonderful person who came home every weekend to visit with us and enjoyed eating ice cream. We are very shocked over what happened,” said Dean.
