KZN traffic cop shot multiple times in attempt to stop armed robbers
A traffic officer from KwaDukuza had to be airlifted to hospital after he sustained multiple gunshot wounds as he tried to intercept robbers.
A KwaDukuza (situated outside Ballito in KZN) traffic and crime prevention officer is fighting for his life after he was shot multiple times on the N2 this morning.
It is believed that he was trying to stop criminals who had just robbed a cellphone store at the KwaDukuza Mall.
“The southbound lane is closed, but the northbound lane is open,” said Samantha Mayrick from IPSS Security Operations.
KwaDukuza Mall manager Siyabonga Tembe confirmed that a cellphone store had been robbed this morning.
“No one was injured at the store and we hope that the people responsible will be caught soon,” said Tembe.
A helicopter landed on the N2 southbound in order to transport the patient to hospital.
The highway will be reopened as soon as possible and a search for the suspects is underway.
Meanwhile, in another part of KZN, a security officer was murdered and his body found dumped in a manhole in Riverhorse Valley outside Durban North.
Reaction Unit South Africa spokesperson Prem Balram told Northglen News that the officer was based at a business complex and was on patrol with a branded golf cart when he was ambushed by unknown assailants.
