Learners escape alleged kidnapping in Soweto
One of six learners targeted in an alleged abduction on the way to school in Dobsenville reportedly fought off the attacker before fleeing to safety.
Teachers and parents at Klipvalley Primary School have raised serious concerns about the learners’ safety, reports Soweto Urban.
This follows an incident in which six learners were allegedly targeted in an attempted kidnapping while on their way to school on Tuesday (May 19) at Dobsenville near the Sasol Garage vicinity.
According to information received from the School Governing Body, Lindiwe Mngomezulu, the learners involved in the incident are Grade 6 and Grade 7 boys.
He said concerns were raised after the school security guard noticed that the learners arrived late and their uniforms were dirty.
“The learners were taken to the office where we spoke to them, and they did not appear well. They explained that a white Polo vehicle was following them and that one of the learners was grabbed, but he managed to fight back. It was at that point that the community realised something was wrong and went to assist the child,” she said.

Mngomezulu added that the learners managed to run away unharmed.
She further expressed her concern and urged parents to ensure that they accompany their children when they go to school, as this is a serious matter.
“As a school, we will soon hold a parents’ meeting to discuss this issue, develop possible solutions, and find ways to support one another, as this matter requires urgent intervention,” said Mngomezulu.
In a letter released by the school, it was confirmed that the matter has been reported to the SAPS and the Department of Basic Education.
Urban News contacted the SAPS for a comment, but no response was received at the time of publication.
