Levubu farm attack: Two in custody for murder of couple

The couple was found tied up with their bodies burnt beyond recognition. It is suspected that their attackers set the house alight before they fled.

Two suspects have been arrested less than 24 hours after a brutal murder in Levubu in which Louis and Ina Cloete were killed.  The hunt for a third suspect is ongoing.

The couple died after they were tied up and their farmhouse set on fire during a house robbery on their Levubu farm near Louis Trichardt on Wednesday afternoon.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said a passerby saw strangers on the Cloete’s premises just as they were about to leave with the farmer’s vehicle. They fled on foot when they realised that they have been spotted.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe ordered a 72-hour activation plan to hunt down the suspects and they were arrested earlier today (April 21).

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said preliminary police investigations revealed that the farmer and wife were accosted by the suspects who ransacked the farmhouse and took several items, including firearms, and loaded them into the family vehicle. They then set the house alight before leaving.

Ledwaba said the manhunt continues for a third suspect and anyone with information is urged to contact the Investigating Officer, Captain Mashudu Lesley Muneri on 082 469 1260, the Crime Stop number 08600 10111 or the nearest police station.
