Limpopo border crackdown: Hilux, Navara recovered by soldiers
Two vehicles reported stolen in Krugersdorp were recovered by the SANDF during border patrol operations in Limpopo this week.
Joint operations by the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), including the South African Tank Regiment along the South Africa-Zimbabwe border, resulted in the recovery of vehicles, illicit goods and livestock, reports Krugersdorp News.
According to SANDF Captain Moses Semono, a Nissan Navara, reported stolen in Krugersdorp, was recovered on April 12 while soldiers were on foot patrol around the T-junction in the Malala Drift area in Limpopo.
Soldiers also recovered a Toyota Fortuner, valued at R1.4m, at the border. The driver abandoned the vehicle after he realised he was cornered.
Investigations revealed that the Fortuner was also reported stolen in Krugersdorp.
In a separate incident, soldiers on patrol intercepted a Toyota Hilux at Malale Road. Semono says illicit medicine worth over R22 000 was discovered in the vehicle.
Illicit cigarettes worth R233 816 were also recovered in Broedery.
Soldiers also arrested 18 people, including two children who did not have the relevant documents to enter South Africa, and arrested three people for transporting sheep and goats worth R84 800 without the required transport documentation near Musina.
Semono confirmed that all confiscated goods and arrested suspects were handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation.
*This article was amended after publishing. It initially incorrectly stated that the recovered Toyota Hilux was reported stolen in Krugersdorp, and that the illicit cigarettes were discovered inside the vehicle.
