Limpopo man allegedly stabs girlfriend multiple times in murder-suicide

Domestic violence cannot be ruled out in an incident in which a woman was stabbed to death, say police.

Police in Tubatse, Limpopo, have opened an inquest and a case of murder following an alleged murder-suicide on Sunday.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says a 36-year-old man allegedly fatally stabbed his girlfriend before hanging himself.

“The police were summoned to the scene at a rental place in GaMashamothane village where they found the body of a woman, who might be in her late 20s, with multiple stab wounds.

“Police then received information that the deceased’s boyfriend was found hanging in the nearby bushes,” he says.

The deceased’s car was found parked on the side of the road.

The man allegedly dumped his girlfriend’s body at home after stabbing her.

The identities of the deceased have not been released.

Ledwaba says the motive behind the incident is unknown but domestic violence cannot be ruled out.

Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe condemned the incident and urged people experiencing domestic challenges to seek help instead of resorting to violence.
