The suspect allegedly hacked his mother to death with an axe before going after his sister and her child.

A 27-year-old man was arrested yesterday for the alleged murder of three family members in what police suspects is domestic violence related.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says they responded to a complaint yesterday morning from the Breda village community in Gilead outside Mokopane in Limpopo, about a domestic violence case in which a man allegedly hacked his mother with an axe whereafter he went after his sister and nephew.

“The three victims were certified dead by the paramedics upon arrival, and the suspect was arrested shortly after near his home,” Ledwaba says.

He says three cases of murder have been opened against the suspect and that the motive for the incident is unknown.

“The deceased were identified as Johanna Seanego (59), Matome Seanego (19), and Tebogo Mashilo Seanego (10).

The Limpopo police commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has called on people to seek professional help when faced with domestic challenges.

“We are extremely appalled by the incident and the atrocious manner in which the victims were killed,” Hadebe adds.

The suspect will appear before the Mahwelereng Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
