Limpopo police seek mayor’s killers

Collins Chabane Mayor Moses Maluleke and his 18-year-old son were shot at their house last night.

The mayor of Collins Chabane and ANC Vhembe deputy secretary, Moses Maluleke, was shot and killed on Thursday evening.

National police spokesperson Colonel Athlenda Mathe confirmed this in a statement and revealed that Maluleke was at his home at the time of the shooting incident.

“According to reports, three men entered the mayor’s home in Saselamani village at around 19:00. They reportedly demanded money from the mayor and his 18-year-old son, but when the pair did not comply with the instructions, they were shot,” Mathe explained.

The mayor succumbed to his injuries on the scene, while his son was taken to a nearby hospital.

National police commissioner General Fannie Masemola has directed Limpopo police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe to avail resources to apprehend the men responsible.

“A case of murder and attempted murder has been registered. Police have since launched a manhunt for the group of suspects,” Mathe added.

Those who may have witnessed the incident, or has information that can assist the investigation, are urged to report to the Saselamani Police Station or call the Crime Stop Hotline on 08600 10111.
