A priest has died in a Tzaneen hospital after he was shot at a church in the Limpopo town this morning.

Unconfirmed reports state the priest was led to a sacristy [a room where sacred vessels are kept, according to the Oxford dictionary], where he was shot by a man who fled the scene.

The priest was rushed to hospital for treatment.

According to an eyewitness, the shooter fled the scene covering his face.

Police confirmed the victim’s death.

This is a developing story and information will be provided by Letaba Herald as it becomes available.

The killing follows the murder of three Coptic Egyptian monks inside a Coptic monastery in Gauteng, yesterday. A man was arrested earlier and is expected to appear in court tomorrow.
