Load-shedding outlook: Stage 3 remains as 2 units fail
Power cuts are likely to be a constant companion throughout 2023.
A rosier load-shedding outlook, with stage 1 during the day from tomorrow, is no longer possible after failing units increased the shortage in generation capacity.
During a media briefing yesterday, Eskom chairman Mpho Makwana said that continuous load-shedding, most likely at stages 2 and 3, will be implemented for the remainder of 2023. This will give the power utility space to conduct crucial maintenance.
2 generating units at Tutuka Power Station were shut down during the night, while the return to service of an Arnot Power Station unit has been delayed, further reducing available capacity. Loadshedding will be maintained at Stage 3 until 16:00 on Monday

Shortly after the briefing, Eskom announced that load-shedding would be reduced to stage 1 during the day from tomorrow. However, this morning Eskom said that two units at Tutuka Power Station had to be shut down during the night and that the return to service of a unit at Arnot Power Station has also been delayed.
Thus, the anticipated reduction to stage 1 is no longer possible and stage 3 will be implemented until 16:00 today, whereafter stage 4 will commence until 05:00 tomorrow.
Eskom says it will publish an update later today.
