Load-shedding: Stage 2 to be implemented tonight

Eskom says the the onset of winter has seen an increased demand which leads to a constrained power system.

Eskom has announced that Stage 2 load-shedding will be implemented tonight from 17:00 to 22:00.

The power utility made the announcement late this afternoon, saying the power system is severely constrained.

Eskom warned earlier today that the power system would be under pressure during the evening peaks, with the possibility of load-shedding at short notice should there be any unit breakdowns.

“Eskom expects to return to service a generation unit each at Kusile and Kendal power stations before the evening peak,” the power utility said in a media statement earlier today.

According to Eskom load-shedding was imminent if the units failed to return to service on time.

Eskom had not released a media statement about the cause of tonight’s load-shedding by the time of publishing.
