Magaliesburg learner dies after falling under school bus

Tragedy struck in Magaliesburg yesterday when a Grade 6 boy died after falling under a school bus, the Gauteng Department of Education said.

A Grade 6 learner from Mphe-Thuto Primary School in Ga-Mohale, Magaliesburg died after allegedly falling under a moving scholar transport bus yesterday afternoon.

Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) spokesperson Steve Mabona said according to information at their disposal the incident occurred after school.

“Reports allege that learners were fighting inside a scholar transport bus when the Grade 6 boy allegedly fell out of the bus and was unfortunately run over by it.”

GDE officials have since visited the learner’s home to pay their respects.

“Our psycho-social team will be dispatched to the school on Friday, September 30 to provide the necessary support.”

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“We are utterly devastated by this tragic incident and we wish to convey our deepest condolences to the family and school community at large,” said Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi.
