Man (50) killed by buffalo on Lephalale farm

A 50-year-old man is said to have died instantly in the attack, while the farm owner escaped harm by climbing a tree.

LIMPOPO –  The Police in Lephalale have opened an inquest docket after a man (50) was killed by a buffalo on the Oxford Farm in Steenbokpan on Thursday morning (June 30).

Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said the victim, identified as Benjamin de Bruyn, was with the farm owner and a photographer when the buffalo attacked him after he fired shots at the animal. He died instantly.

“Although the farm owner tried to rescue him by firing shots at the buffalo, the animal chased and attacked him as well. He escaped by climbing up a tree and the photographer managed to keep safe distance,” he said.

“Investigations continue,” Mojapelo said.
