Man arrested after rock attack on deputy sheriff’s vehicle near Potchefstroom

An Ikageng man faces charges of malicious damage to property after allegedly throwing rocks at two vehicles during a court-ordered seizure.

A municipal employee, Mohau Shuping (44), was arrested this past week for allegedly damaging the property of a deputy sheriff and a repossession agent, reports the Potchefstroom Herald.

The deputy sheriff was acting under instructions from the High Court to execute an order by seizing Shuping’s vehicle on Tuesday. The incident occurred at 16:00 in Ikageng.

Colonel Adele Myburgh, spokesperson for the North West Police, confirmed that Shuping had been arrested and that police are investigating a case of malicious damage to property.

“It is believed that the bank gave instructions to seize the vehicle via an attorney. There was an argument, and it is alleged that the owner of the vehicle damaged the vehicles by throwing rocks at the car windows,” she said.

The Herald is also in possession of dashcam footage showing a man, alleged to be Shuping, throwing rocks at the vehicles.

According to a repossession agent who was at the scene, Shuping drove his vehicle off the tow truck and parked it in his yard.

“When we went back the next day, the vehicle was not on the owner’s property,” said the agent.

Myburgh confirmed that the case had not been placed on the court roll.

The Herald contacted Shuping yesterday, but he did not want to comment on the incident.
