Man arrested for allegedly killing his girlfriend
A 24-year old man has been arrested for allegedly killing his girlfriend in Mzinolovu, Richmond, in KwaZulu-Natal.
The couple allegedly had an argument that led to the suspect fatally stabbing his girlfriend Lungile Shezi, 25, on Monday at about 9.55pm, said police. The suspect then fled the scene on foot. Police added the deceased sustained multiple stab wounds to the body.
Richmond police received a tip-off about the whereabouts of the suspect and proceeded to Mzinolovu, where he was arrested yesterday. The suspect will appear in the Richmond Magistrates’ Court soon.
Provincial commissioner, Lieutenant-General Mmamonnye Ngobeni said: “We hope that the suspect will serve a long term in jail if found guilty”.
In a separate incident, a 52-year-old business owner was shot and killed by her boyfriend before he killed himself in New Eersterust, Hammanskraal, in northern Gauteng in January.
Police received a call at 7.30am from a member of the community. When police arrived at the scene, they found the woman was shot three times in the upper body, while the man, 61, had shot himself.
Police spokesperson Constable Petunia Chabangu said the couple died on the scene, and the reason for the murder was unknown.
