Man arrested for possession of explosives in Pretoria CBD
A man who is facing charges of contravention of the Explosives Act 26 of 1956 will appear in court soon.
Pretoria Central police and traffic wardens apprehended a suspect for possession of explosives, detonators and detonator cords in the CBD yesterday.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk says police received a tip-off from locals about a person suspected to be carrying explosives.
Police were mobilised and the suspect was tracked down, he adds.
“After the person was found, the search revealed explosives, detonators and detonator cords in their possession,” says Van Dyk.
He adds that the police explosives unit was called in to ensure the safe handling and transportation of the explosives.
Van Dyk says the suspect is facing a charge of contravening the Explosives Act 26 of 1956 and the investigation is ongoing.
The suspect will appear in court soon.
