Metro police officers who noticed suspicious activity at a street vendor stall found dagga, illicit cigarettes, LSD drug sachets and more.

Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) officers arrested a 53-year-old foreign national in the Kempton Park CBD on Thursday after he was found in possession of drugs valued at more than R80 000.

The spokesperson for the City of Ekurhuleni, Zweli Dlamini, says the man will face charges of dealing in and possession of drugs, possession of illicit cigarettes and possession of suspected stolen property.

“He will face additional charges of being in possession of a fraudulent South African ID and being in contravention of the Immigration Act [13 of 2002].”

EMPD officers were patrolling the area when they noticed ‘suspicious movements at a street vendor stall’.

During investigations, dagga, illicit cigarettes, 144 LSD drug sachets, and 70 bottles of cough syrup were found.

Dlamini says the man was detained at the Kempton Park Police Station and was due to appear in court.
