Man burns down house in alleged domestic dispute

Police investigations are underway after a man allegedly poured petrol over a woman and some of the fluid landed on her children in Olieventhoutbosch, Centurion in Gauteng.

It alleged an argument ensued between the man and the woman before he reportedly poured petrol which sparked fire and destroyed their house on Sunday, Rekord Centurion reported.

ER24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing said two children under the age of five were among those injured. The sixth family member, an adult, survived with moderate injuries.

Bodasing said fire and rescue services extinguished the fire on Sunday and freed the family from the house.

“They (the family) were treated and transported to hospitals close by,” said Bodasing.

Police spokesperson Captain Tumisang Moloto said an attempted murder docket had been opened.

In a separate incident, a 55-year-old man who set fire to the house in which his 37-year-old wife and two-year-old son burned to death at the Plain Farm compound in Letsitele, Limpopo, died in hospital, in August.

Ngoepe added the man’s wife, Lucy Mabunda, and her son, Wisdom Nkuna, had died from the fire the man had started after a domestic dispute.
