Man collapses after walking 18km to find help after accident in KZN

One person died, another got a heart attack and a third walked to a toll gate in search of help after the car they were travelling in veered off the N2 highway.

A man had to be treated at Mandini Toll on the N2 in KZN, as he collapsed there after walking to seek help following an accident this morning.

The accident occurred on the N2 near Zinkwazi in which one person died and three others were injured.

IPSS Medical Rescue media liaison officer Ethan Somerville reported the car, with five occupants, veered off the highway, dropping some 30m down an embankment. The collision left the passengers with injuries ranging from minor to critical.

One of the passengers was able to walk to the toll plaza, around 18km from the accident scene, to seek help.

Medics who arrived at the scene declared one person dead while they also treated a passenger who started having a heart attack.

Advanced life support medics successfully resuscitated the patient before transporting the injured to a nearby hospital for further care.
