Man found dead inside car at Vanderbijlpark Cemetery
Police have opened an inquest after a man was found with a fatal gunshot wound to the head at the Vanderbijlpark Cemetery.
A man was found dead inside an Audi A4 at the Vanderbijlpark Cemetery yesterday.
Sedibeng Ster reports that, according to police reports, the shocking discovery was made after a passerby noticed the vehicle parked suspiciously inside the cemetery and alerted police.
Officers responded to the scene and found the car locked, with the man’s head on the steering wheel.
Sergeant Sabelo Sigcu, a police spokesperson, says they found the man with a gunshot wound to the right side of his head and a pistol inside the vehicle.
The man was certified dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.
Sigcu adds they have opened an inquest docket, and investigations are underway to determine the circumstances surrounding his death.
At this stage, authorities have not confirmed whether foul play is suspected or if the incident may be linked to suicide.
