Man granted bail after Parliament security breach
Parliamentary operations were uninterrupted after a man was apprehended in the precinct and appeared in the Cape Town Magistrate's Court.
A 34-year-old man accused of unlawfully entering the parliamentary precinct in the early hours of Friday, has been released on R1 000 bail.
Conor McGuigan (34) appeared in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court yesterday (September 14) on a charge of trespassing.
He was apprehended by Parliamentary Protection Services shortly after entering the precinct and handed over to police.
Parliament operations unaffected
Parliament spokesperson Moloto Mothapo said the incident did not disrupt operations.
“Parliament takes any unauthorised access to its precinct seriously and continues to maintain appropriate security measures to safeguard the institution,” Mothapo added.
Postponed for further investigation
National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila confirmed McGuigan’s release on R1 000 bail.
He said the case was postponed to October 14 for further investigation.
