Man in court after Newcastle teen’s death

The man accused of Henrico Oosthuizen's murder, Suluman Tyob, made his first appearance in the Newcastle District Court.

Suluman Tyob, accused of causing the death of 17-year-old Henrico Oosthuizen, made his first appearance in the Newcastle District Court yesterday.

Newcastle Advertiser reports that attorney Zubair Chothia, representing Tyob, confirmed the matter was postponed to next Wednesday for bail information.

Incident details

Henrico died on Monday after being struck over the head, allegedly with a pipe, in the early hours of Sunday following an altercation in Gemsbok Street. He was taken to hospital for an emergency operation after sustaining severe brain injuries but died the following day.

Community support

A BackaBuddy campaign remains active in Henrico’s name to help the family cover a medical bill of nearly R600K.
