Man killed, another wounded at Hartbeespoort resort

A man was killed and another wounded during a shooting incident at a resort on the Hartbeespoort shore on Sunday night.

According to police spokesperson Constable Ben Moabi, police were called out to the Legacy on the Dam resort in the Kosmos area late Sunday night after receiving information about a shooting incident.

“On arrival at the scene, a male was found lying on his stomach, with multiple gunshot wounds. He was declared dead on the scene by emergency services. A second victim allegedly ran away and was also shot. He was taken to a hospital,” Moabi says.

According to residents at a nearby estate, they were alerted by multiple shots around 22:30. “We heard between 20 and 30 shots. Bullets were flying and we fell flat on the ground,” a resident says.

Another resident went outside when he heard the shots and also took cover. “It sounded like an automatic rifle and other shots. And then the screaming started.”

Automatic rifle and pistol cartridges were found on the scene.

“The motive for the incident is unknown and the police investigation is continuing. Hartbeespoort police are investigating cases of murder and attempted murder.
