Man killed off Ontdekkers Road, Roodepoort in argument over broken side mirror

Man flees scene on bicycle after deadly attack.

A man died after being stabbed by a cyclist on November 8.

The victim was driving a white bakkie heading west on Ontdekkers Road at roughly 10:00 when his left side mirror was clipped by a commuter on a bicycle. Approaching the Ontdekkers and Christiaan de Wet Roads intersection, the two men pulled into the petrol station on the left-hand side to discuss the incident, where the altercation soon became heated.

According to reports from the scene, an argument ensued and turned violent when the cyclist stabbed the driver of the bakkie in the chest. Sadly, the stab wound was fatal and the man died at the scene. Kruin Community Volunteer Association’s Steve van Eeden relayed that a second man attempted to intervene in the altercation and was also threatened with a knife.

The perpetrator then climbed back onto what is described as a racing bicycle and fled the scene. The cyclist is still at large. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to please contact their nearest police station as soon as possible.
