Man shot dead in Johannesburg flat

Witnesses say the man used one of the three suspects as a shield while he was shot at multiple times.

A man believed to be in his 40s was yesterday shot dead in a flat in Bellavista, Johannesburg.

The incident took place around 10:20, and according to witnesses on the scene, the man was shot at least four times by three suspects who later ran towards Chrisville.

A witnesses told Southern Courier that the deceased is a kind man who cleans dustbins in the area.

Reports suggest that one of the three suspects was also shot when the deceased used him as a shield while he was being shot.

Booysens SAPS communication officer Captain Lorraine van Emmerik says a case has been opened at the station.

The members are currently working on information received at the scene, Van Emmerik adds.

The motive for the murder is unknown at this stage, however, an investigation is underway.
