Man sought for murder at Polokwane township tavern

An altercation inside a drinking establishment escalated into a man being stabbed with a broken beer bottle.

Police in Westenburg, Polokwane, are searching for the man responsible for killing a 30-year-old man at a tavern in the township of Seshego.

Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says the man, identified as Aluwani Sikwari, was killed in the early hours of yesterday.

“According to information [received], two male patrons had an altercation while in a tavern at around 23:50 when the man was stabbed in the upper body with a broken beer bottle, by [an] unknown male suspect,” he explains and adds the victim ran out of the drinking establishment in Extension 78.

Ledwaba says police were informed of the murder and found the body of man in a pool of blood outside the tavern.

“He was later identified by his family. The police immediately activated a massive manhunt for the suspect responsible for the murder,” he adds.

Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe urges those who witnessed the incident to assist police with information.
