Manhunt launched after deadly ambush on KZN police officers
A shooting in Mount Edgecombe has claimed the life of a Crime Intelligence officer and left his colleague critically injured.
A manhunt has been launched after two police officers were ambushed and shot in an incident in Mount Edgecombe yesterday, reports Northglen News.
The attack targeted two Crime Intelligence officers, killing one and critically injuring the second who sustained a gunshot wound to the neck.
Acting national commissioner of the SAPS, Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, said resources have been mobilised to ‘hunt down’ the criminals involved in the attack.
It is believed the officers were in a state vehicle, a white Toyota Hilux bakkie, when they came under heavy gunfire by a group of unknown suspects on Flanders Drive.
“No stone will be left unturned in ensuring that the perpetrators are brought to justice,” Dimpane said.
“Various special units from SAPS, including crime intelligence operatives, detectives, and the organised crime unit, are working around the clock to track down and apprehend those involved”, explained Dimpane.
“The SAPS extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the fallen officer, and wishes the injured member a full and speedy recovery.”
