Man’s body discovered day after wife’s murder in Sasolburg

When the couple’s employers left everything seemed fine but when they returned home from work the woman’s body was discovered at their house.

A day after a woman’s body was discovered at her place of employment in Sasolburg, her husband’s body was found hanging from a tree outside his cousin’s house in Tumahole.

Sergeant Josephine Rani, spokesperson for the Fezile Dabi district police, says the couple were both working for the same employer as domestic worker and gardener in Sasolburg.

The couple reported for duty on Friday July 8 and were left in good terms by their employer.

When she returned home from work, the employer found the door unlocked and the lifeless body of her domestic worker lying on the floor.

The police were summoned to the scene and a case of murder was opened for further investigation.

On Saturday, 9 July the sister-in-law of the deceased called the police in Tumahole to report a crime.

Upon arrival the police found the man, who was wanted for questioning for his wife’s murder, hanging from the tree outside his cousin’s house in Tumahole.

An inquest docket has been opened for further investigation. No foul play is suspected.

“It is heartbreaking to know that both parents passed away leaving their children as orphans,” says acting Fezile Dabi police Commissioner Brigadier Mapulane Mbeloane.

Mbeloane says community members must take a stand and fight against domestic violence and not wait until it is too late, if they realise a neighbour or loved one might be a victim of domestic violence.
