Mark Lifman murder: Bail application next month

Two men accused of shooting an alleged underworld boss in the parking area at the Garden Route Mall in George are due back in court in December.

The two men, Johannes Jacobs (53) and Gert Bezuidenhout (37), who stand accused of the murder of alleged underworld boss Mark Lifman (57), made a brief appearance in the George Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

The case was postponed for their formal bail applications on December 12 and 13. Both men will remain in custody.

Due to an outstanding identity parade, the court ordered that the media were not allowed to take any photos or videos inside the courtroom yesterday.

By order of the court, the media will be allowed to take photos and videos during the next appearance, but with certain restrictions and regulations.

Lifman, from Cape Town, was gunned down in the parking area at the Garden Route Mall in George at 11:38 on Sunday morning, November 3.

The accused fled in a white VW Polo, but were apprehended later that afternoon near Uniondale.

Lifman was laid to rest during a private ceremony in Cape Town on November 7.

Although he is no longer alive to stand trial for the 2017 murder of ‘steroid kingpin’ Brian Wainstein, he remains the prime suspect alongside his co-accused, the alleged Sexy Boys gang leader Jerome ‘Donkie’ Booysen, and security company owner André Naude. Wainstein was shot at his home in Constantia.
