Mbalula announces extended period for expired licences

All learners licences, temporary licences, drivers licences, and roadworthy certificates including temporary permits that expired during the period of March 26 up to May 31 are deemed to be valid according to Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula.

While in Centurion on Friday morning to launch a computerised learner testing system that will assist government to ease the backlog of service issues received as a result of the nationwide lockdown, Mbalula said the validity of expired licences that expired during the period of March 26 and May 31 will be extended by a further 90 days from June 1.

The minister also confirmed that registering authorities, testing centres and vehicle testing stations would open on 1 June.

He warned that all testing centres, registering authorities, driving schools and testing stations had to put in place procedures for the cleaning and disinfection of their premises before the commencement of their services on June 1.

“These institutions must provide hygiene dispensers for the washing of hands of their clients when entering their premises.

“No person will be allowed to enter a testing station, driving school or any other registering authority if they do not wear a mask that covers the nose and mask.”
