An exciting list of esports has been added to the Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) mix this year.

MSSA president, Colin Webster said, esports refers to a form of competing that uses video games. MMSA is one of South Africa’s oldest and largest membership-based organisation for esports.

“MSSA held its first Provincial Championship in 1998, and has been consistently delivering championships for the various esports titles ever since. In fact, Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) is the oldest national federation for the sport in the world,” he said.

This year, the organisation has introduced several titles to the mix, including Call of Duty Mobile, CS GO, League of Legends, Street Fighter and FIFA 22.

By competing in MSSA championships, students can earn student provincial colours, qualify for selection in the national squad, and earn medals.

“The championship allows students from all over the country to test their mettle against each other in an official championship. Many registered players will also be delighted to see that Call of Duty has made a welcome return back into MSSA’s Student Championships,” said Webster.

Webster said any student of any South African tertiary institution can participate, regardless of whether the player is MSSA affiliated or not.

“It should be noted that only official teams entered by university clubs, affiliated to MSSA or the Sports Councils may use the tertiary institution’s name. Also, only registered players qualify for the team selection process,” said Webster.
