Minister announces fuel hike for Wednesday
Motorists are encouraged to brace themselves for an increase.
Consumers will have to dig deeper into their pockets as the price of petrol is set to increase by 53 cents a litre.
The minister of mineral resources and energy, Gwede Mantashe, announced the adjustment of fuel prices that will come into effect from Wednesday, February 2.
Consumers are advised to take note of the following changes:
Diesel is set to increase by a 79.84 cents per litre, while the price of illuminating paraffin will go up by 101 cents a litre.
According to a statement from the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy, South Africa’s fuel prices are adjusted on a monthly basis, informed by international and local factors. International factors include the fact that South Africa imports both crude oil and finished products at a price set at an international level, including importation costs, such as the shipping costs.
“The main reasons for the fuel price adjustments are due to crude oil prices,” said the department.
