Missing Driehoek teen’s body recovered from Vaal River
The family of Thomas Sithole (17) has called for justice after his body was found in the Vaal River days after he vanished during a boat outing.
A hysterical cry filled the air as the lifeless body of Thomas Sithole was put in a pathology van after it was recovered from the Vaal River earlier today.
According to the family, police divers were still searching the river when Sithole’s body floated downstream to the spot where relatives had camped for two dreadful days.
Sedibeng Ster reports the family was allowed to view the body and claimed there appeared to be a wound on the back of his head.

The 17-year-old was reported missing on January 9. He had been on a private boat cruise with friends when he disappeared. His family was informed the next day after a friend of his older sister contacted them.
Dozens of Sithole’s friends, relatives, and immediate family gathered at the river and watched as several police units combed the scene.
Speaking to the media, Thomas’ cousin, Katleho Motseki, said the family is struggling to come to terms with the findings.

“The family is more than devastated. While we gathered on the riverbank, we saw his body floating downstream while divers were busy searching for him. It was as if he waited for his family to fetch him,” she said.
Victoria Sithole, sister to the deceased, said her brother was a lovable child who was adored by many.
“He was always calm and collected. He always told me to chill when I shared my problems with him,” she said.
“He had a lot of dreams. I still can’t believe that he is gone,” she added.

The Sithole family said all they wish for is justice and answers about the circumstances surrounding his death.
Described by many as a bubbly soul, Anke van der Schyff, a family friend, said she will miss him.
“He was a good kid with a sweet soul. My daughter is heartbroken over Thomas. I will miss how full of life he was. He was a kid with big dreams and hopes.”
At the time of publishing, police had not yet responded to media enquiries.
