Mopani police investigate alleged rape of 13-year-old boy

A Limpopo boy allegedly endured repeated abuse and threats for years before speaking out after classmates mocked him about the incidents.

A 13-year-old boy in Hlanganani, Limpopo, broke his silence after other children mocked him, revealing that he had been raped multiple times by a man known to him over a period of nearly three years.

Letaba Herald reports that Mopani police have opened a case of statutory rape following the allegations.

According to police reports, on Saturday afternoon (May 23), a 67-year-old grandmother was at home when her grandson returned crying.

The boy informed her that he had been mocked by other children who claimed to know that he had been raped by a man known to him.

Years of abuse

The victim further disclosed that the man allegedly raped him on several occasions from 2023 until March this year.

According to the report, the victim did not disclose the incidents earlier due to threats made by the man, who reportedly said he would kill him or expose the matter on social media if he spoke out.

The case has since been transferred to the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit in Giyani for further investigation.

The man has not yet been arrested, and police investigations are continuing.
