More Covid-19 recoveries recorded for Gauteng

Cases in the province are likely to reach 200 000.

Gauteng province Covid-19 recoveries were in good standing on Sunday, covering 74 percent of reported 192 767 cases thus far, according to statistics by the department of health.

On Monday the department released stats that saw the total number of recoveries standing at 143 068 with 2 579 Covid-19 related deaths.

The department of health said out of 93 648 contacts traced (individuals who were in contact with a person who tested positive for Covid-19), 73 049 people have completed the 14 days monitoring period, with no symptoms, reported and were de-isolated.

Number of hospitalised people due to Covid-19 in the province stood at 4 431.

Breakdown per district of cases and recoveries:

– Johannesburg: 78 123 cases and 62 398 recoveries

– Ekurhuleni: 43 019 cases and 37 763 recoveries

– Tshwane:  40 258 cases and 25 800 recoveries

– Sedibeng: 12 811 cases and 7 181 recoveries

– West Rand: 12 436 cases and 9 926 recoveries

On the repeated areas in the stats, the department has not yet clarified why these suburbs have been mentioned more than once.
