Mother from Ekurhuleni charged with murdering her baby

The father of the child made the tragic discovery when he went to check on his wife and children.

A 39-year-old mother is expected to appear in the Daveyton Magistrate’s Court for allegedly killing her one-year-old baby girl.

The incident happened in Barcelona, Daveyton, on February 5.

According to Etwatwa SAPS spokesperson Sgt Khensani Mathebula, the father of the baby made the grisly discovery when he went to check on his wife and children at around 05:30.

“It is alleged that when he got to the house, he found his wife’s hands covered in blood.

“He proceeded to the outside rooms where he found the baby’s lifeless body face-up on the bed. The child had no shirt on,” said Mathebula.

“There were no visible stab wounds to the child’s body although there were indications of bleeding. The paramedics declared the child dead on scene.

“The mother was arrested and has been placed under police guard and will undergo mental observation.”
