Mozambican arrested for public violence at Lebombo Border Post

Mpumalanga police had to fire rubber bullets to disperse the crowds at the Mozambique border.

A Mozambican national (49) was arrested for public violence at the Lebombo Border Post yesterday.

According to provincial police spokesperson Captain Magonseni Nkosi, the man had parked his taxi in front of the entrance to the border post.

“When the police reprimanded him, he locked himself inside his taxi. Some other people at the border, believed to be Mozambican, supported this man’s actions. The police had to use rubber bullets to disperse the people who were causing disorder.

“No injuries were reported. The taxi driver was then arrested for public violence. The situation was brought under control and no incidents were reported thereafter,” Nkosi says.

He says Mpumalanga police are monitoring the situation at the border while the political protests continue nearby in Mozambique.
