Mpumalanga man arrested for impersonating a cop

A 34-year-old-man was arrested for impersonating a police officer at Jeppes Reef Border Gate earlier this month.

According to the police report, information was received about the suspicious civilian, Nkosingiphile Siyalu Mancoba, who was wearing items of a SAPS uniform at the border gate.
Further allegations indicated that he was robbing people while pretending to be a sergeant. These suspicious activities were reported to the police by a concerned citizen and a follow-up to the allegations was initiated.

Mancoba was eventually cornered, and during his arrest he was found wearing a police uniform consisting of a woman’s shirt, men’s trousers without a belt, a cap, the insignia of a sergeant and brown shoes.

Upon arrival at the Schoemansdal Police Station, one female police officer identified him as someone she had hired to install a ceiling in her house between February and March this year. Through the investigation it was discovered that during the period he was working for the member, he allegedly stole her police uniform.

Mancoba appeared in the Nkomazi Magistrate’s Court on April 7, facing charges of impersonating a policeman and theft. The provincial police commissioner Lt Gen Semakaleng Manamela, strongly warned against those who are doing all they can to get their hands on police items, including firearms, and that such behaviour will never be tolerated.

“Given the recent incidents in which members of the police were targeted by criminals for their tools of trade, this has made us more vigilant. We will deal strongly with those who take us for granted and we will never back down nor allow the situation to continue unabated,” warned Manamela.
