Mpumalanga man found sleeping in bed next to skeletal remains of loved ones
A tip-off from a member of the public about graves being dug up at a cemetery near White River led to police making a disturbing discovery.

A man from Swalala near White River in Mpumalanga was arrested after police found him sleeping in bed next to the skeletal remains of two of his family members.
Lowvelder reports that the Masoyi police received a tip-off from a woman that a man, aged 29, had dug up the graves of his father and grandfather.
Following the tip-off, the police rushed to the local cemetery to investigate.
“Members of the Visible Policing Unit at Masoyi promptly attended to the complaint and upon arrival at the cemetery, confirmed that the graves had indeed been disturbed as reported,” provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Donald Mdhluli explains.
“Swift action was taken to locate the suspect who was found at his residence in Swalala,” adds Mdhluli.

The police found the suspect asleep on his bed with the bones next to him.
He was immediately arrested and has been charged with the violation of graves.

“The bones were confiscated and are now evidence in the ongoing investigation being conducted by the SAPS,” says Mdhluli.
The suspect is set to appear in the Masoyi Periodical Court tomorrow.

The motive for the incident is unknown.
The grandfather and father were buried in 2010.
