Mpumalanga nearing 20 000 confirmed Covid-19 cases

The Mpumalanga Department of Health has confirmed that the number of coronavirus cases in the province has increased to 19 394.

South Africa has recorded 563 598 confirmed infections, according to an announcement by the minister of health, Dr Zweli Mkhize, on Monday August 10.

A total of 19 394 of those cases have been reported in Mpumalanga.

According to data released by the Mpumalanga Department of Health, there have been 15 833 recoveries and 149 deaths to date.

The Mpumalanga Department of Health released a statement today clarifying that the minister of health had reported 19 455 on August 10, however, of the additional 61 cases mentioned in the national report, 14 were misallocated from other provinces and the remaining 42 cases are under review and will be allocated accordingly.

The health department went on to say that for epidemiological week 32 an average of 570 cases were reported per day.

To date, the department has screened 6 186 459 which surpasses the 4,5 million residents of the province.

According to the department, its data shows that females account for 54% of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the province.

he majority of cases fall under the 30-39 age group.

The Mpumalanga Department of Health went on to say that 1 012 healthcare workers have tested positive for Covid-19 in the province – 800 from public institutions and 212 from private ones.
