The return of double world champion RG Snyman to full training with Munster will have been well received by the Vodacom United Rugby Championship title-holders and the Springboks.

Snyman, recovering from a chest injury sustained during the Rugby World Cup final in October, underwent surgery in November and was initially slated for a March comeback.

However, head coach Graham Rowntree revealed positive progress last week on the towering lock’s recovery in the buildup to the friendly between Munster and the Crusaders in Cork on Saturday.

Snyman’s potential return to action in February looks promising after the Irish giants confirmed that the 29-year-old was one of two key players back on the training field.

“Tom Ahern has completed the return to play protocols and returns to full team training this week,” read a club statement yesterday.

“RG Snyman also returns to full team training after recovering from a chest/shoulder injury sustained in the world cup final.”

Despite his imminent departure to Leinster at the season’s end, Rowntree has praised the professionalism of Snyman, who made an impactful return from knee ligament injuries in March 2023, propelling Munster to a remarkable series of away wins, culminating in the URC final triumph over the DHL Stormers.
