Murder of Port Shepstone magistrate’s son: Couple found guilty
A husband and wife will learn their fate next month after they were convicted of the killing of a 27-year-old man.
Joash Govindsamy (28) and his wife Aveshnee Naidoo (22) from Phoenix have been found guilty of murdering Bryson Munilall (27) outside a Durban nightclub on November 5, 2022.
Munilall (27), formerly from Port Shepstone, was leaving the nightclub with his sister, Caroline, and two other relatives, when they got into a car park altercation with the Phoenix couple and others on Chris Hani Road.
Bryson was the son of Bryan Munilall – a magistrate at Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court.
Magistrate Mayne Mewalall recently found the couple guilty in the Durban Regional Court.
The incident
On the day of the altercation, Govindsamy stabbed Munilall multiple times and he died on the scene.
When Munilall’s sister Caroline tried to intervene, Naidoo assaulted her. For this, the court also found Naidoo guilty of intent to do grievous bodily harm.
The case was postponed to March 4 for the probation officers’ reports.
