Murder suspect killed in KZN shoot-out

Two suspects linked to multiple murders and a cash-in-transit heist were shot by police in Durban, leaving one dead and another hospitalised.

Two suspects linked to the murder of three Ntambanana family members in January were yesterday shot by police in Durban.

Zululand Observer reports one suspect was fatally wounded during the shoot-out, while the other was rushed to hospital.

The duo was being pursued by police in connection with a cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery on the N2 southbound carriageway near Higginson Highway outside Durban.

KZN police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda says police received a tip-off regarding vehicles spotted fleeing the crime scene.

“The identified vehicle was intercepted at an intersection in Glenwood, and the suspects opened fire on the police,” says Netshiunda, adding that one suspect was killed and another injured in the shoot-out. No police were injured.

“[The suspects] were linked to another double murder case committed in June 2024 in the same area,” he adds.

“With regards to the Tuesday morning CIT heist, another vehicle, which was hijacked in KwaMakhutha and used in the robbery, was found abandoned in Mariannhill with what looked to be money bags inside.”
