It has been revealed that four people died in yesterday’s accident on the N12 between Ogies and eMalahleni. The scene took hours to clear with the road only completely reopened to traffic late yesterday afternoon.

According to Moeti Mmusi of the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, the four victims were travelling in a sedan which caught fire.

A total of 16 vehicles were involved in the accident.

The four deceased were burnt beyond recognition. Four more people were transported to hospital for medical treatment.

The accident scene saw long delays on the highway with traffic backed up and motorists having to make use of alternative routes because of the road closure.

The Witbank News reported that the scene was cleared and the road reopened for traffic towards eMalahleni at 16:00.
