National Shelter Movement launches 24-hour toll-free helpline for GBV victims

In an effort to stem the rising tide of gender-based violence and femicide affecting women of South Africa, the National Shelter Movement of South Africa (NSMSA) on December 1 launched its 24-hour toll-free Shelter Helpline.

NSMSA is an NPO based in Cape Town, but renders services across South Africa with its many representatives deployed in different part of the country.

The Shelter Helpline will serve women by helping them find a conveniently located place of safety from domestic abuse and provide information about obtaining protection orders or advice on issues when dealing with the SAPS.

It became operational from December 2.

As a result of Covid-19, the launch will be streamed live on Facebook. More details will only be published after the launch.
