NMU student stabbed to death: Female accused granted bail

A third-year tourism student was stabbed six times with a knife, at their student residence, allegedly by a fellow student.

The 21-year-old Nelson Mandela University (NMU) student, Fandiswa Mthonti, was granted bail of R1 000 with strict conditions in the George Magistrate’s Court today.

George Herald reports she has been placed in the care of her mother and uncle.

Mthonti, represented by Jerome Bans from Bulelani Bans Attorneys Inc, is charged with the murder of fellow student Lilitha Booi (23) in Le Vallia on November 17.

The incident occurred at their student residence in Mountainview Crescent.

Police arrived at the scene around 19:00 and discovered the victim with multiple stab wounds.

According to reports, the victim was stabbed six times with a knife. Mthonti was apprehended at the scene. The motive for the incident is still under investigation.

Booi was a third-year tourism student at NMU.
